Sisters Jin and Bin, ages 6 and 3, live with their mother. Jin likes school and does well. One day, their mother leaves the girls with their father's sister, a woman they do not know. The mother seeks a reconciliation with their father. She leaves them a plastic piggy bank, promising to return when the bank is full. The girls scrub and clean for their aunt, a tippler who's often cranky and complaining. She gives them a few coins for their work. They earn more money catching, grilling, and selling grasshoppers. They miss their mother. The bank fills. They watch for her from a mound of dirt. Will she return?

Synopsis

Taking its title from Greek philosopher Zeno's famous paradox, Achilles and the Tortoise follows Machisu from his childhood days, pursuing his dream of becoming a famous painter. The middle-aged Machisu is played by Beat Takeshi, and his (quite successful) paintings are also by Kitano.

Manufactured Landscapes, a feature documentary by Jennifer Baichwal

MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES is a feature length documentary on the world and work of renowned artist Edward Burtynsky. Burtynsky makes large-scale photographs of ‘manufactured landscapes’ – quarries, recycling yards, factories, mines, dams. He photographs civilization’s materials and debris, but in a way people describe as “stunning” or “beautiful,” and so raises all kinds of questions about ethics and aesthetics without trying to easily answer them.

The film follows Burtynsky to China as he travels the country photographing the evidence and effects of that country’s massive industrial revolution. Sites such as the Three Gorges Dam, which is bigger by 50% than any other dam in the world and displaced over a million people, factory floors over a kilometre long, and the breathtaking scale of Shanghai’s urban renewal are subjects for his lens and our motion picture camera.

Shot in Super-16mm film, Manufactured Landscapes extends the narrative streams of Burtynsky’s photographs, allowing us to meditate on our profound impact on the planet and witness both the epicentres of industrial endeavour and the dumping grounds of its waste. What makes the photographs so powerful is his refusal in them to be didactic. We are all implicated here, they tell us: there are no easy answers. The film continues this approach of presenting complexity, without trying to reach simplistic judgements or reductive resolutions. In the process, it tries to shift our consciousness about the world and the way we live in it.

一小格底片，幸福一生

花谷村即將因建造水壩，在一夕間沈入水底，為了留住家鄉之美，老攝影師決定著手拍攝「村之寫真集」。在東京做攝影助理的兒子，懷著當年對父親的怨懟，不情願地回到小山村幫忙。每天，父子倆沿著陡峭山路走訪當地村民。然而兩人的工作態度卻天差地遠，兒子希望以有效率的方式完成「任務」，父親卻堅持「一步一腳印」親身體驗，拍出生活的熱情。除了價值觀的衝突，花谷村也拆遷在即，就在村公所擔心寫真集不知是否能如期完成時，父親竟因心臟病發倒在山路上…。
全片在日本三大秘境之一「德島縣祖谷」拍攝，山嵐瀰漫宛如台灣九份，當地居民單純熱情的演出令人動容。老攝影師在數位時代，沿用最古老的蛇腹相機，以傳統底片留住家鄉的各種表情，充滿生命力。不論是純樸小鎮或靜謐山村，都令人想起舊日美好時光。父子檔攝影師之間的親情牽絆，在衝突與瞭解中，聯手拍攝「村之寫真集」的過程，充分展現東方傳統家庭最內斂的深情。

"Dolls" is three stories about extraordinary love; all consuming and bordering insanity. The main story, literary the red thread, as the bound beggars are bound together by a red string, is the wandering of Matsumoto and Sawako. Not only do they structure time, but they also function as silent narrators.

北野武第十齣導演作品<<偶斷絲連>>，瞄準「日本四季」景色為背景，如詩如畫細訴最愛之哀。影片以日本文樂(木偶) 戲<冥途之飛腳>作楔子，鏡頭再由「紅繩乞兒」穿針引線，奏出三段哀愁的悲戀物語。

燃燒的紅葉：
佐和子與松本是公認天造地設的一對，惜男方遭家人迫使，要躬身入贅迎娶老闆的千金。後來，佐和子受不住打擊服藥自殺不遂，變成呆子。松本在結婚當日，得悉佐和子為了他肝腸寸斷，變得瘋瘋癲癲，心生愧疚之餘，決定逃婚。兩人最後流落街頭，被人稱作「紅繩乞兒」。

夏日的碧海：
人氣偶像歌手春日奈，不幸一次交通事故中毀容，痴心歌迷溫井為了陪伴偶像，不惜犧牲雙目，以為只要失去視覺，偶像就不再介意，讓他作伴，目的，只為了在她面前演奏一曲。

靜寂的雪山：
年老的黑幫頭目，自知時日無多，回想當年種種。有些不提也罷，有些卻刻骨銘心。心血來潮到故地懷緬一番，發現舊情人每逢星期六都帶備了飯盒，於相約的時間和地點守候，一直堅守不見不散的承諾。唯相見之時，二人均已面目全非，舊情人壓根兒不認得曾與自己海誓山盟的黑幫老大...
